Lifts

A resident of the 14 storey Heswall Court flats on Bailey Road, Luton found himself facing the possibility of being marooned within his home during the latest, of a series of breakdowns, of the lifts in his building.

Mr Beatham, 56, stated he was alright for the time being, however he had an appointment to keep, bills to pay and food would soon run out. Mr Beatham has been highly affected by this recent breakdown of the lift due to being partly paralysed, and a sufferer of polio.

After contacting the council regarding the state of repair of the lift Mr Beatham was told they were processing the order for the part and apologised for any inconvenience that may have been faced.

This is of little comfort to Mr Beatham who had expected the remaining lift that had broken down to be fixed by Luton Borough Council engineers by Friday.
It is believed that vandals are the main cause of the breakdowns, however this does not compensate for the fact that the second lift in the building has remained unusable since the 23rd of December. The council commented by saying their anti-social behaviour team is looking into the incidents of reported anti-social behaviour.
